Virtual Meeting: Trappers Rd Traffic Calming

As many of you know, I have been working closely with the community and the Emerald Woods Residents Association over the past several years to address traffic related issues in the neighbourhood. In response to concerns raised with regard to high vehicle speeds on Trappers Road, this spring the City’s Traffic Department installed white flex stakes on the bend of the road in order to slow down vehicles and deter cut through traffic. These measures were installed as part of the City’s Temporary Traffic Calming Measures program. As these measures are seasonal, they will be removed in mid-November 2020.

In discussion with your neighbours, I had agreed to host an on-street meeting this fall to receive your feedback on the recently installed measures in order to assess their effectiveness and to determine if they will be re-installed next season. However, with the new provincial orders in effect, restricting gatherings, I will instead be hosting this meeting virtually via Zoom.

I recognize that these temporary measures are not a perfect solution but, as a reminder, both Trappers Road and Alderwood Street are currently on the City’s waitlist to receive a Neighbourhood Traffic Calming Study, which would consider more permanent traffic calming measures such as speed humps, traffic islands and other changes to the roadway. However, the current waitlist is extensive and far exceeds the city’s funding resources.

If you would like to share your feedback on the current temporary traffic calming measures installed, I will be hosting a virtual meeting on Wednesday October 7th 2020 at 6:00 p.m.
