On March 8th, I was once again honoured to host my International Women’s Day Breakfast to recognize and celebrate the amazing achievements of women in our community.
This year, I invited Catherine Butler, Lead Organizer of the Women’s March in Ottawa, to be my guest speaker. Catherine delivered a passionate and empowering speech.

She eloquently recounted her journey that inspired her to organize a demonstration of more than 8000, mostly women, Ottawa residents. This march was remarkable in its size and scale, but perhaps even more remarkable in its message: That women right here at home: mothers, grandmothers, daughters, sisters, wives, public servants, business leaders and everyone in between will join the fight for women’s rights.
As I reflect on this message, it is clear to me that we as a City need a stronger and more sustained focus on Women’s issues locally. That’s on my to do list and I hope many of you will start contemplating how you might seek change to strengthen your own environments.
Happy International Women’s Day!
